Esterbrook # 341 Reservoir Stub |
Description: The body is circular forward of the imprint area with convoluted runnels to create a reservoir to hold more ink. The tip is not a true stub, regardless of the name. The tip is more of a blunt point. A "V" shaped vent hole. A long body. Gray finish. |
Remarks: This most unusually shaped pen was apparently not successful in the marketplace as it is not comonly seen today. There was an identical design available in Europe. In the United States, this pen shape was also sold as the "Phonograph" pen. Whether it was made under contract by Esterbrook, or some other manufacturer, is not known. This sample tended to try and flood slightly. Also, the flow regulation wasn't constant, having heavier flow at the beginning and lighter flow towards the end of an ink load. Introduced in the 1883 Esterbrook Catalog "#341 The Reservoir Stub Pen – Gray – A large stub; a good ink holder, and free writer." |
