Esterbrook # 330 Scratch Knife |
Description: This scratch knife has a curved edge blade. It is designed to be mounted in a regular pen holder. The head is raised or domed to produce a flat edge on the bottom. This allows the entire edge to be sharpened easily on a fine whetstone. |
Remarks: The scratch knife was the original eraser. It was used to scrape ink off vellum (animal skin) to correct mistakes. It can still scrape ink off today's heavier papers and Bristol boards. The scraped area may not take well to re-inking. This scratch knife is designed to fit in a standard pen holder |
Reference: The existence of this pen is confirmed or surmised by the following: Seen in Esterbrook Salesman Sample Cases Listed by Internet Vendor(s) |
