ESTERBROOK 314

Esterbrook # 314 Relief

Description:

A straight-bodied pen with a stub tip and no vent hole. Brass finish.

 Esterbrook #314 Relief

Remarks:

This is another pen that probably qualifies as "Flagship" status for the Esterbrook Company. In production for a long time and widely advertised, it is frequently found today. A quality stub pen that is a good writer.

From the photo, this pen appears tarnished. To the naked eye, it doesn't look nearly that bad.

Esterbrook advertising indicates that this pen was not made of steel. Probably made of brass. Not sure why as this would seem to wear out faster than steel.

Introduced in the 1883 Esterbrook Catalog

Description in the 1883 Esterbrook Catalog

"#314 The Relief Pen – Golden – A yellow metal stub, medium fine point."

Description in 1938 Esterbrook Catalog

"Relief - Flexible, medium stub. For social correspondence and manuscript writing. Brass finish. Gold plated"

Description in Esterbrook Pens and What They Will Do

"As the name implies, it is a relief to write with this pen. Action smooth like old fashioned quill. Not made of steel. Not affected by ink."
