Esterbrook # 123 Straight Amalgam |
Description: A straight-bodied pen with a sharp point. An oval vent hole with blunt ends. Stiff flex. Gray finish. |
Remarks: Uses for stiff flex pens range from making carbon copies to monoline writing. Monoline writing was popular with accountants under the theory that thin, uniform width lines used less ink than lines with swells or wider sections. Beancounters! What will they count next? Description in the 1870 price list calls this pen merely the "Amalgam" without the "Straight" descriptor. Description in the Illustrated Price List of the Esterbrook Steel Pen Company, January 1, 1876, Lists this pen as the "Amalgam Medium". "#123 The Straight Amalgam Pen – Gray – Medium point and stiff action." Description in the 1938 Esterbrook Pen Catalog"Firm, fine. Good bookkeeper's pen. Gray finish"
Description in Esterbrook Pens and What They Will Do
