Esterbrook #106 Elastic Pen |
Description: A sharp pointed pen with a leaf or spear shaped head. A pinched waist. A double diamond vent hole. The head between the vent hole and the waist is reverse bent with a fold down the middle creating a raised spine. |
Remarks: The bottom pen is a Perry & Co. #27 Extra Fine shown for comparison. The two styles are very close differing only in that the Esterbrook pen is slightly larger. This illustrates that pen manufacturers often copied what they considered successful styles of other manufacturers. Or it could mean that this style was made by one manufacturer and the other contracted with them for their pens to be made. "#106 The Elastic Pen – Bronze – Medium fine and elastic" |
Reference: The existence of this pen is confirmed or surmised by the following: Listed in the Illustrated Price List of the Esterbrook Steel Pen Company, January 1, 1876; archives of Hadley Museum and Library, Wilmington, Delaware; contributed by Andrew Midkiff Listed in the Trade Price List of the Esterbrook Steel Pen Company (The American Stationer, September 4, 1879) (Contributed by Andrew Midkiff) Listed in the 1883 Esterbrook Catalog |
